Fracturing the human physiognomy has been around since the cubists did it. But it was calculated and planned. I wanted to try and be more arbitrary and chance driven so I devised a process that would inhibit control. The surface was pretreated and I didn’t make pencil marks to guide me. The pigment had to be rubbed into the fiber of the paper directly and the form developed organically. I feel these images have an emotional power which if i had controlled the working I wouldn’t have achieved.
